I’ve been hash-tagging (that’s a term, right?) Adventures of a Notebook for as long as I’ve had my Anya Wyers Author Instagram–my first post was on July 16, 2018–but I’ve never really gotten into the details about what it means to me.
The idea of hash-tagging (it’s a term now!) Adventures of a Notebook came from a past life. Or at least a time in my life where I was lost and supremely taken advantage of, before my book was published. It came from a person, She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, who actually shared a good idea with me. She encouraged me to grow my social media following and mentioned an account she followed of photographs of a Starbucks coffee cup at different places. She said that she looked forward to seeing where the cup would pop up next, and the idea for my notebook doing the same thing was born. I haven’t done the greatest job of capturing my notebook’s adventures, but I plan to. And I wanted to share its journey.
Now, I don’t like to be so cryptic, but I still haven’t figured out how to manage the situation I found myself in with this person, so for now, this is the only way I know how to handle it. I think it’s important to note that the idea of Adventures of a Notebook was not my own and it didn’t feel right to do that without addressing this other person. We all know someone like that, right?
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a notebook handy, blank pages at the ready, my favourite blue ball point pen within reaching distance. Even before I became a writer. When I started my journey towards publishing my book, I started a fresh notebook, which I have since filled. My newest notebook, my second “writing” notebook, is this pretty floral notebook, which I started on June 28, 2019. I use these books to take notes at the various conferences I’ve been to, as well as to plan all things related to Anya Wyers Author. It also hosts notes for my Romi series, ideas for my blog and schedules for all things writing-related. I also have a planner, which contains my personal and writing life things. I use it to keep track of my workouts, thoughts and encouraging phrases for myself. And don’t forget the to do lists!

Back to my notebook.
I’d like to grow this little idea I had into something more, and the place to start is here. With the pledge that I want to make my notebook more interesting, share where it goes and what it does as a way of propelling my creativity and the places I take it forward. See if you can spot my notebook when you see the hashtag #adventuresofanotebook and know that it was intentional on my part to have it in my post. You’ll be in on my secret, as small as that may be.
I’ve said it before, but this profession that I have found myself working towards is a very self-motivated one. Any little thing I can find to be more fun makes me feel like I’m doing something right. It may end up being just for me and my inner circle, but I hope one day it will reach further. To someone that needs it.
As I search for my place and my purpose, I am happy to have you with me along the way. Stay close, and don’t be a stranger. I love reading comments!
Reach further than you think you can touch,
Anya
Love the hashtag. Notebooks are essential to life as an author 🙂 I include the same things in mine. And each one has a story.
