I am so excited to share that I have published an article with Vancouver Mom, in their column called VM Voices.

I first heard about Vancouver Mom when I attended one of their conferences, for the Top 30 Mom Bloggers, in 2019. This is also where I heard Gillian of Mom Camp speak for the first time! I had attended the event by myself, five months into my career as a blogger. Not only did I meet some fabulous women and learn of Mom Camp, this is what eventually prompted me to attend Mom Camp: The Camp last November. You can read that post here if you missed it.

The last picture of me naturally has someone else in it, too. <3

There was supposed to be another Mom Camp this past April, but it was cancelled (thanks Covid, for stealing all the cool things, like hugs, travelling and Mom Camp). Instead, I attended Mom Camp: Virtual Camp, and wrote about it in the now-published, Vancouver Mom guest post. I am so proud to see my words on the page, someone else’s page for a change! I hope you take the time to read it here and be sure to let me know what you think!

From My Instagram Post Yesterday:

To be honest, the timing of this was great for me, personally. I was having the Mondayest-Tuesday ever yesterday, and when I got the final link to my article, it reminded me why I’m doing all of this: staying home with the kids, writing while they nap or play with kids in the neighbourhood, why I write instead of spending time with Brad, or reschedule date night so I can attend events like Virtual Mom Camp. I do it because it is a part of me that I cannot ignore. Pride in myself and what I am doing is important to me, and this includes doing things without my kids. It seems so backwards that time away from them, doing things that are strictly about me and my needs and interests, can make me a better mom.

I certainly don’t feel like anything is helping these days, to be honest. Ask any parent sending their kids back to school—or not sending them back—right now.

This shit is tough.

But then, I am reminded that I’m a person in the mix, too. That needs water to grow, time to flourish and encouragement to just be myself sometimes.

I’d like to take a moment to say thank you. To Gillian, of Mom Camp, and to Vancouver Mom for the great support. And to my kids, for making me a mom in the first place, and the hubs, for his never-ending support, too. I feel like I should thank the dog at this point as well, cause why not, but he’s in my bad books. Anyone else deal with an overly reactive dog? Just us? Great. 😉

Last, thank you, my reader, for your support. My words are my story, and I can’t wait to share the next one with you. More on that in the next blog?

Til next time. And the next article,

Anya
