The thought of writing a blog has crossed my mind several times over the last year or so, especially since I have decided to work towards writing as a career.
Sitting down to do it, however, hasn’t happened until now.
I am coming close to being able to say that I have written a book. Most of the writing is done and I am working with an editor to refine everything before it is finalized for publishing.

I have written a book!
This is where the idea to start my website stemmed from. I have been encouraged by the people at The Self Publishing Agency, whom I am working with to self-publish my book, to keep people up to date about my book by sending routine emails.
I have not done this. Okay, well I’ve sent one email. Back in November? Nope, October. How has it already been three months?!
I am aware that email marketing is very effective, but the biggest thing holding me back has been not wanting to bother people. I also know that having a website is a good starting point for people once I am a published author. A place for them to get to know me and find out where they can buy my book, ebook and (hopefully) audiobook!
And so the idea for my blog was born.
Wouldn’t it make much more sense to just start a blog to tell people about my book, the status of the entire project and whatever else I might be working on?
Except that I don’t want to just start a traditional blog, so to speak. Not only do I not know what to write about, I don’t know what my future even holds so I couldn’t plan anything in advance either! So bear with me while I figure this all out!
For now, I’ll leave you with the email I sent my followers, the very first time I sent a marketing email:
At some point over the last year, I have told each of you about my adventure in writing my first book, my memoir. It’s scary and exhilarating all at the same time and I’m excited to have you along on this journey with me.
I’m currently working with an editor (eeeeeek!) who has helped me redesign my writing so far. I basically have the content of my book written but I’m re-writing everything to add dialogue and depth in order to make it more appealing to readers. I would have had no idea how to do that on my own!!
I’ve made myself a personal goal of having the re-writes done by the end of the year, so fingers crossed I can do it!
